Spotlight Post: The Designer Within

I have been designing my own crochet mittens, scarves, hats, and other items for several years now but have recently dipped my toes into the world of knit design.

My first foray into this amazing endeavor has me thoroughly hooked to the point where I find myself picking up my knitting needles more often than my crochet hook.

It all started a couple of weeks ago when I responded to a call to action on Instagram that requested knitters who wanted to learn how to create their own design.  This request was a five day design challenge hosted by a wonderfully talented knit designer.

I chose a Redwood forest theme and a lacy leaf stitching pattern to design the cowl pictured above.  This process appealed to me because of my love for math.  I lost myself in the calculations and as a result, have other designs running through my head trying to escape quicker than I can draw them out in my sketchbook.

The challenge was a ton of fun that didn't stop with the five days as the group decided to keep the lines of communication open using Social Media platforms.  Now I am sharing my ideas, designs, fears, and struggles with other knitters from all over the world who have developed the same passion for knit design as I have.
